The smartphone phenomenon has taken the world by storm. Android is one
of the most popular operating systems currently on the market for
mobile phones. In fact, Android phone sales rose 300% in the first six
months of 2010. An estimated 1 in 10 cell phone contracts are for an
Android phone.
Technology is the fastest-growing industry in the world. Mobile
technology keeps growing and enveloping new ideas with each new model.
How many times have you bought a new piece of electronics only to find
out a week later that it's been replaced by a newer model?
Best
Android Apps
Apps, or applications, are small programs that simply make your life
easier. Facebook apps allow you to log into your Facebook account and
maneuver with ease. Youtube apps allow you to browse your favorite
Youtube videos or even upload videos directly from your mobile phone to
your Youtube account.
Facebook and Youtube aren't the only great apps available for Android.
Other apps help schedule your day, keep up with to-do lists, count
calories and much more. The top five must-have Android apps are The
Weather Channel, Barcode Scanner, Backgrounds, Ringroid and Shazam.
Mobile communication is what mobile technology is all about. The top
five Android apps for communication are Twidroid, Wireless Tether for
Root Users, Steel, Handcent SMS and chompSMS. Each of the communication
apps is unique, but each of these receives 4 to 4.5 stars out of a
possible 5 stars from user reviews.
Mobile entertainment possibilities have taken the world by storm. The
top five entertainment apps for Android are Movie Finder, The Schwartz
Unsheathed, Movies and Showtimes, Movies, and Backgrounds.
Apps are available to track and improve productivity, sync with social
websites, and even play games. Complete customization for your Android
phone is possible with the variety of useful apps available as well as
those still in development.
Newest Android Phones
HTC
is one of the leading manufacturers of smartphones that work very well
with the Android operating system. The HTC Desire, HTC Legend, and HTC
Hero are among the top phones on the market currently.
HTC Desire: The Desire has had a few issues in recent months that
should have been taken care of during the September 2010 update. Most
people who reviewed the HTC Desire were extremely pleased with the
performance, size and functionality. This phone sells for $525 to $580.
HTC Legend: The Legend is the only phone we could find that received a
solid 5 stars out of a possible 5 star rating. Customers have very
little negative to say about the HTC Legend. Some said it isn't as fast
as other HTC phones but the Android operating system makes up for it.
This phone sells for around $460.
HTC Hero: Customer reviews for this phone are full of praise for the
screen size, 5mp camera, few pushable buttons and very nice touch
screen. Apps, apps and more apps! A few users were unsatisfied with the
roller ball and said the keyboard size in portrait was difficult to
use. The keyboard size in landscape was perfect. This phone varies from
$350 to $550 with deals available from a few cell phone providers.
Samsung Captivate Galaxy S Android Smartphone: It's relatively rare to
see multiple phones from the same manufacturer receive a solid 4.5 star
rating, but Samsung has done it again. The Captivate Galaxy S receives
rave reviews from very satisfied customers. Battery life and lack of
flash for the camera are the primary cons users give for this phone.
This phone normally retails for around $400.
Motorola
XT701:
User reviews give this Android phone a solid 4 stars out of a possible
5 star rating. The XT701 has a 5mp camera with a Xenon flash for taking
pictures indoors as easily as outdoors. Prices tend to stay in the $400
to $500 range for this phone.
Deals on Android Phones
Don't expect any incredibly inexpensive deals on Android phones in the
near future. The latest, greatest and newest technologies don't often
fall in price so soon. Android phone deals are available, however, from
a variety of cell phone companies.
