Chris: It’s great to be back here for this week’s Market Report. We’ve been busy these last two weeks tracking down some great deals and spreading the word about Dealhack. In fact, Michael recently talked to NBC about Black Friday deals in a report that was run nationally and I was interviewed by the Boston Globe for an upcoming story on smart discount hunting online.
The hype of Black Friday and Cyber Monday are past, but the biggest online sales days are still in front us. Free shipping offers continue to be the most common enticement.
With reports this week the year-over-year sales are soft, we’re likely to see even more discounting in the weeks ahead. The key sales days for online retailers start next Monday and run all week while there is still plenty of time for gift delivery via standard shipping.
This time of year also leads to some unexpected specials as vendors look to boost their year-end numbers. For example, we noted that web host Joyent is offering big two years for the price of one and five years for the price of two discounts on their high end web development platforms. While not a traditional holiday sales item, this is an outstanding offer if you are working on a web start-up.
For most of us though, now is the time to get our gift lists together and place our orders while the selection is good and the discounts are flowing. How about you Mike? Is your shopping done?
Michael: Not quite...but I have to say I'm pretty excited about a One Laptop Per Child that I purchased for some kids in my life. I guess we're waiting to see if it's going to get here in time but I'm looking forward to it.
Chris: Well they certainly were promising they'd do their best for the early orders, so you have a shot.
Michael: Well, every time I see 50 Million ordered for this country or that country I think, ohhh...is that going to slow down the one that's coming my way? But, we'll see.
